Dendrobium nobile Lindl (scientific name: Dendrobium nobile Lindl), also known as Wanzhangxu, Jinchaishi, and Bian Jinchai, is a perennial herb of the Orchidaceae family. It is named after its shape which resembles a hairpin on the head in ancient times. It is known as the “immortal herb that brings wealth” and the “giant panda in the medicine world”.

The stem of Dendrobium nobile is erect, fleshy and thick, slightly flattened cylindrical, unbranched, with many nodes, golden yellow after drying; the leaves are leathery, oblong, obtuse at the tip and unequally split on the sides, with a sheath that clasps the stem at the base; the racemes are emitted from the middle part of the old stem with leaves or fallen leaves, the bracts are membranous, ovate-lanceolate, and gradually pointed at the tip; the pedicels and ovaries are lavender, the flowers are large, white with lavender tips, sometimes the whole is lavender-red, the middle sepals are oblong, the tip is obtuse, the lateral sepals are pointed at the tip, the base is skewed, the column is green, the cap is purple-red, conical, and the flowering period is April-May. It grows on tree trunks or rocks in valleys in mountain forests at an altitude of 480-1700 meters, mainly distributed in India, Nepal, Sikkim, Bhutan, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam; it is also distributed in Hainan, Guangxi, Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan and other provinces and regions in China.
Dendrobium nobile tastes sweet, slightly bitter, slightly cold, non-toxic, and is mainly used to treat deficiency heat in the stomach, fever and spontaneous sweating, carbuncle and pus discharge, as well as anti-tumor effects, lowering blood sugar and blood lipids, protecting the nervous system, protecting the liver, improving immunity, and resisting fatigue.
